Evening Dress c 1859

Evening dress or ball gown made out of an emerald green rayon to be worn over a hoop. The dress is in one piece and features the drop-shoulder line of the mid-Victorian period. The overskirt, undersleeves and fichu are of ivory lace and the sleeves are finished with green epaulettes. The overskirt is caught up in festoons with burgandy ribbon and roses. This dress was featured in Godey's Lady's Book in 1859.
